WELCOME GUESTS!
Welcome to life at Bishop Dwenger, a co-educational preparatory high school. Bishop Dwenger offers a rich curriculum of nearly 100 courses, but we understand that it takes more than academics to guide our students for life in school, and prepare them for life after graduation. Mind, body, soul and spiritual components make up a total, well-balanced person. We address each facet in full at Bishop Dwenger High School.
From the Principal
It has been forty years since the first graduating class of 192 students completed their education at Dwenger. These young men and women helped to establish a tradition of academic and spiritual excellence and a desire to help others that continues to this day. I am also joining that elite club as I celebrate my forty years of service to Dwenger. It has been a remarkable four decades in which the school has continued to provide its teachers with the opportunity to teach the whole child.
At Dwenger, we view each student as a unique creation from God. Each brings with him or her unique gifts which we seek to develop and nurture in order to prepare our graduates for life's many challenges and opportunities. Bishop Dwenger High School offers a rich curriculum that is only a part of the learning that takes place in our school. We understand that it takes more than academics to guide our students. We seek to train the mind, body and soul in order to develop a total, well-balanced person.
Education extends far beyond the classroom as we encourage students to engage in a spiritual life, a life of service, and an active life in addition to their academic life. We have always known that often times the greatest learning takes place long after school is dismissed at 3:00 p.m. each day.
Our accomplishments have led the school to being named a Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education in 2004. We were also named to the National Catholic High School Honor Roll in 2006. The strong curriculum is designed to inspire a lifetime of learning.
We strive to integrate classrooms studies and personal growth in order to foster "Citizens of Two Worlds", which is the motto of our school. Campus ministry and a strong theology curriculum have led to a number of our students entering the seminary. We have also instilled in our students a strong sense of serving others through programs such as Saints on the Move and a comprehensive outreach program of community service throughout the year. This includes tutoring inner city youth and sponsoring trips to Appalachia to work with those in need.
Students also have the opportunity to participate in a number of co-curricular activities whether it is athletics, academic teams or any of a number of clubs and organizations.
We also maintain a strong commitment to academics with over 93% of our graduates attending colleges or universities. We also work closely with those students that have a desire to enter the work force upon graduation. Our goal is to see that every student lives up to his or her abilities both in and outside the classroom. We want each of them to develop their God-given talents to their fullest potential.
Dwenger has also made a major commitment to maintaining and updating its facilities and curriculum. Since 1995, we have added new classrooms, upgraded all of the school's science labs, built a new cafeteria, and library media center. The latest expansion effort includes a new fine arts wing and when completed in the spring of 2008 will also include 8 additional classrooms, an expanded guidance office area, additional offices, and new space for campus ministry and the service coordinator.
We truly believe in each and every student here at Bishop Dwenger. They are "Learning for Life". Please take a few moments and explore our website. I am confident that you will come away with an appreciation of what we mean by educating students to become "Citizens of Two Worlds."
