Dress Code/Uniform Update 2019-2020 School Year

Jun. 13, 2019

Due to the overwhelming variety of sweaters offered by retail stores and the difficulty in monitoring this part of the dress code, a uniform ¼-zip pullover will be utilized starting in August of the 2019-2020 school year. This, along with the full-zip fleece that has been available for the past few years, will be the only “sweaters” permitted for either gender.

Teachers report how problematic it can be to determine a sweater’s “legality” when there are so many shades and styles. This, in turn, detracts from time that should be spent in education, rather than the monitoring of dress code. Because studies have determined that a dress code/uniform leads to better focus in the classroom, Bishop Dwenger has always utilized such.

The sweater/pullover will be available in the Spirit Shop beginning July 8, 2019. There will be 3 styles of various materials and weights. Some will come in a female or male cut while others will be unisex. The cost will range from $23 to $33. All styles will be navy with the school seal that is presently used on the girls’ polo shirts. This will allow for quick identification that the student is compliant to the BD Dress Code.

Rest assured that the black or navy full-zip fleece that is currently sold in the Spirit Shop remains dress code-compliant. Likewise, a buttonless, knit cardigan will be also available in navy, have the school seal, and sell for $40. These cardigans will be available by ordering; a very limited inventory will be carried in the Spirit Shop.

The school is making these products available “at cost”. It is our hope to minimize the time our faculty spend addressing dress code and to also make school shopping well-defined and cost-effective.

The Spirit Shop is open during the summer on Wednesdays from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm;

or by appointment by phoning 260.410.0446 to schedule.
