ISTEP Parent Information

Freshman Year: Freshmen will take the PSAT 8/9 during their fall semester. They will also take the ILEARN Biology assessment during the spring semeseter.

Sophomore Year: Students will take the PSAT and the PreACT during the fall of their sophomore year.

Junior Year: Students will take the PSAT/NMSQT and the PreACT in the fall of their junior year. Then, the SAT will be administered to all juniors during school day in the spring. Students should plan to take both the SAT and ACT tests in the spring of the junior year. The Guidance Department will be in classrooms in the winter to help set up SAT and ACT testing accounts involving student login and passwords. There is also a Junior Parent Night in the spring when counselors will explain in greater detail the testing and college application process.

Senior Year: Students should plan to re-take (or take if haven't already) the SAT and ACT tests in the fall as college applications need to be completed and colleges need the scores for admission decisions. Having multiple scores may help in the admission decision as most colleges super score. This means they will take the best subtest scores from multiple administrations so it is in the students' best interest they take the tests at least 2 times.
